ROCK ON EVERYONE!

Word of the Day

Petrichor

Of course it’s Greek:

is the scent of rain on dry earth. The word is constructed from Greek, petra, meaning stone + ichor, the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology.

The term was coined in 1964 by two Australian researchers, Bear and Thomas, for an article in the journal Nature.[1] In the article, the authors describe how the smell derives from an oil exuded by certain plants during dry periods, whereupon it is absorbed by clay-based soils and rocks. During rain, the oil is released into the air along with another compound, geosmin, producing the distinctive scent. In a follow-up paper, Bear and Thomas (1965) showed that the oil retards seed germination and early plant growth.[2]

Thanks Wikipedia.

You know what’s a great smell? Fresh cut grass. Mmmmmm. Sorry, had to share that.

Get Over It

“Dude, I’m in love.”

“You are?”

“Yeah, man.”

“But you barely know her.”

“I know, but I’m in love.”

“Maybe you’re infatuated.”

“No, love.”

Sound familiar? If you’re a girl, probably not, but you’ve probably had a conversation somewhat like it. Well, people, warning bells should be going off right about now. The person who’s in love may very well be in love but the one who he’s in love with may not love him back. Ever think of that? No, you probably didn’t. I think the trick to this is to look at the worst situation. Does he love me? Let’s say, no. For now, okay? Doesn’t mean it’s right but let’s say he doesn’t for now. Because if you think he does, you’re going to go mad crazy. And if you’re wrong, you’ll probably fall apart. If you’re obsessed with him or her, chances are very high you’re about to ruin yourself in front of everyone including the person you’re in love with. Never do anything irrational. Throwing a rock at a girl’s window does not mean you care. If the window breaks, she’s now suing you for damages.

“I love you Alice!”

Seriously, dude, you need to find a better way to show your love. Writing sappy love poems and then giving them to her may help, but if she doesn’t like you, she’s going to think you’re a creep. So, take that off the list of The Ways I’ll Make Her Love Me or The Ways I’ll Make Him Love Me. Men are more to prone to violence but I’m not telling you girls to start throwing rocks at the man’s window or start writing love poems and then giving them to him. Chances are, he’ll still sue you even if you’re a girl and chances are he’ll still think you’re a creep. Sorry, it’s the truth. Time is everything, so really the best possible thing to do when you’re obsessed with someone is FUCKING MOVE ON! I know, it’s really hard to read this but it’s the truth. Don’t play mind games and make yourself believe she or he’s in love with you. Did they tell you this? No? I thought so, so stop obsessing. Yes, it’s hard. You think life is easy? You’ll see them every day, think of them every day, want to see them every day, but you’re not going to and you need to face that. Just keep thinking to yourself that you’re a great person. Be yourself, not someone else. Love will find you if you let it, but maybe putting love on hiatus for a bit of a while will do you good. Take my advice. It may just save you.

Love,
